
Serena is a postgraduate student from Cardiff University and recently joined the Urbanists on an internship. Serena has good knowledge and skills with urban design computer graphics and is a confident free hand illustrator. Serena brings a different cultural perspective to the team and her recent studies are helping to ensure the Urbanists stay at the cutting edge of theory as well as practice.
What kind of design do you think makes a place 'work'?
A design solution which appreciate the context; ensuring that the economic feasibility will deliver a place which works.
What is your favourite place & why?
Tianjin. It is my hometown as well as my favourite place. Tianjin has foreign influence from the UK and France in its history; therefore, the city has mixture of culture and buildings. It is a city with its own identity.
What interests you outside of work?
Impressionism and surrealism arts are always my interest. The art works can also give me inspirations on my design work, and help to break the the ordinary everyday thinking.
What activity to you most wants to undertake in the next ten years?
I have a passion for wine! I'm currently working toward my Wine and Spirit intermediate level exam which will enable me to become a better wine taster! I'd like to learn a third language – although I'm not yet sure which.
What place do you most want to visit in the next ten years?
Japan, I love different culture, especially interesting in exploring the city and building forms where traditional and modern parts of the city or building meet.
