The Urbanists were commissioned by Bellway Homes to prepare a detailed landscape design for a new development of 30 executive homes in Cyncoed, Cardiff. Following a successful planning application we were further commissioned to prepare a full landscape design package for the £800,000 showhome, including construction drawings and site supervision.
Our design approach was to create a prestigious garden which served multiple uses and reflected the interior spaces of the house. We designed a flexible casual eating / resting space leading directly off the dining room. From this a linking element led to a more formal and permanent decked eating and entertaining area with built in seating and barbeque.
Outside the kitchen / utility room, we introduced an area of raised allotment beds, allowing occupiers the opportunity to grow their own food. This reflects the practical internal uses in that area of the house.
The remainder of the garden has been laid to lawn allow for further flexible use of the space.
The planting scheme has been deliberately kept clean and simple with the use of grasses and bamboo to create an uncluttered an contemporary atmosphere. Hard surfaces have been chosen which create textured contrast from smooth pebbles to sharp slate and rough finished slabs.
