The Urbanists were appointed by Redrow Homes to develop a strategy for the redevelopment of Cardiff City Football Club’s ground for residential use.
The commission included initial development concept options through to a detailed 1:500 layout.
The overriding concept for the development was to create a place which respected it’s heritage whilst looking forward. A crescent shaped gateway was developed at the access to the site drawing into a tree lined boulevard. This leads to the heart of the development which is a landscaped square focused around the centre circle of the former football pitch. All other development springs off this square in the form of homezones, lanes and mewscourts.
The site covers some 3 hectares and the final layout achieved an overall density of 79 units per hectare equating to 248 units including 30% affordable.
The development was taken through the detail design stages by Powell Dobson Architects and is now completed on site.
