South East Wales Metro

We were appointed by Welsh Government to contribute to an economic impact study to refine the emerging concept of a new Metro style system for South East Wales.

Our role in the study team was to prepare high level strategic advice about the regenerative impact of a new Metro system to support the quantitative data being prepared by others as part of the work.

As part of this review we needed to consider the relationship between station design and the needs of people and places. A clear thinking approach has sought to identify new opportunities for development as part of Metro stations. This has required substantial desktop and primary research into station design. Our aim has been to create new opportunities which go beyond what a transportation network would normally deliver.

Our work contributed to the published Impact Study report presented to the Welsh Government. This has subsequently been given the green light to proceed to the next stage with £62 million allocated to the scheme.
